A quarter of a centure ago, almost nothing had seeped into the public domain about the exploits of the Royal Navy's Cold War submariners. Not only were they responsible for delivering the country's nuclear deterrent, they were also tasked with ensuring that the Soviet submarine nuclear missiles were neutered. Jim Ring was the first writer to be given official access to the top RN submarine skippers and to be told their extraordinary story. Hear it again from his own lips.
