Christmas Sailover to Royal Yacht Squadron Cancelled

5th - 6 December

NOTE

As many of you will be aware the funeral and celebration of Dot Jones' life is on the afternoon and evening of Thursday 5th December.  Dot Jones was not only a long-standing member of the Club but was also a driving force on the Cruising Committee for many years.  She cruised extensively, won many trophies and was assisted many who were planning cruises directly and with her cruising logs.

The Cruising Committee is aware that a significant number of members would wish to say farewell to Dot and support Richard on 5th December.  We also wish to be respectful of this day and acknowledge the huge contribution that Dot has made.   the Cruising Committee have decided to postpone the Sailover to Cowes this year.  All monies will be returned to those who have paid.

The RYS have kindly stated that they will help us find a date in early Summer for a supper at the Club as an alternative and we have reserved 4th December 2025 for the Sailover next year.  All members who have registered this year will be guaranteed a place at the Summer event.

If you have any questions please reach out to Michael Lithgow ChairCruising@royal-southern.co.uk

The Sailover to Cowes will be to The Royal Yacht Squadron and will take place between 5th- 6th December with the Christmas Supper on the evening of 5th December. For many this marks the beginning of the festive season, commencing with pre-dinner drinks in this iconic and prestigious building, with supper on the famous platform.  For those that wish to arrive earlier in the afternoon there will also be a guided tour of the RYS which is highly recommended.

We are very grateful to Peter Nicholson for sponsoring this extremely popular event at The Royal Yacht Squadron.

The Royal Yacht Squadron kindly makes available the Haven for those of us, who regardless of weather, decide to make the hazardous crossing from Hamble to Cowes although many prefer the more stable crossing on the ferry!

A number of the bedrooms are available for those that wish to stay overnight, priority will be given to RSrnYC members.  Single occupancy @ £166 and double occupancy @ £195 - room only.

Accommodation can also be booked directly with the RORC across the road.

Pre-booked breakfast is available for those staying in the RYS or on boats in the Haven @ £22.50

Dress for the evening is reefer/jackets with ties.  Dress for breakfast the following morning is smart casual.

Payment for pre-dinner drinks and supper will be added to your RSrnYC account (£60)

Payment for drinks (other than pre-dinner drinks), accommodation and breakfast is on an individual basis direct to the RYS prior to your departure.
